Getting stuck in a rut is part of the program at the Land Rover Experience Driving School (landroverusa.com/experiences), which is nestled in a forest at Carmel-by-the- Sea’s Quail Lodge & Golf Club. Here, lessons with an instructor range from an hour ($275) to full-day packages (from $1200) and can also extend past one day. Picture driving over rocks and through mud to mastering features like All-Terrain Progress Control, before breaking for lunch at Bernardus Lodge & Spa. “ e experiences are all completely customizable,” explains Location Manager Justin Demayo, who has even arranged a program that included a half day of rugged driving, followed by a stunning helicopter tour of Big Sur. From corporate team-building to father-son adventures to honing o -road skills, the Experience Driving School is for all levels. e school’s eet of nine cars includes only the latest Land Rover and Range Rover models, as well as an automatic Defender 90 as part of its Heritage Program. Goers can learn everything from navigating steep inclines and declines to maneuvering themselves through compromising and uncharted terrain.
